Restrictions on gatherings have caused significant problems for festival operators during the worldwide pandemic. In a normal year, 80,000 visitors from 80 nations would gather for the Wacken Open Air in the Northern German province, a huge heavy metal festival in the fields. In 2020, the organizers were forced to cancel the festival for obvious reasons and postpone it until the following year. Hang on a minute – why?
The music spectacle is entering the digital realm: Wacken World Wide - a unique mixed reality show that is open to more people than ever. The music acts perform on exclusive stages, which are brought to life digitally.
There’s no reason why this years’ festival season should be any different. Cellular has provided the solution: the Wacken ID. This ID forms the core of the Wacken app, which was specially developed for the event. Thanks to this app, all Wacken fans can create their own personal, free Wacken ID and receive exclusive offers. The ID also forms the foundation for a virtual Wacken community.
